Acids and Tannins

Why is my mouth watering? What’s that grippy, sticky feeling on my teeth?

This Sunday, we will learn about two of the most useful distinguishing features of wine: acid and tannins. What makes a wine fresh? Flabby? Is there really a difference between the taste of various acids? You’ll learn all about why your mouth feels dry when drinking red wines and what the difference is between all of those tannin descriptors – what on earth are ‘chunky’ and ‘chewy’ tannins? This session is beginner friendly!

This week’s session will be led by Victoria Phan, winner of the Top Taster award in the 2024 Oxford–Cambridge Blind Tasting Varsity Competition, and international wine tasting competitor.

We will be providing six white and six red wines for the tasting.

We ask that you please aim to arrive 10-15 minutes before the session begins so that we can begin pouring immediately.

Please bring your own set of 6 ISO tasting glasses. Glasses are available to buy here .

Date: Sunday 3 November
Time: 19:30 (Please arrive at 19:20 so we can start pouring at 19:30!)
