Session 5: Alcohol and Ripeness

10 November 2024 19:30

Event Details

Alcohol and Ripeness

Climate, or terroir, affects both the alcohol level and ripeness of a wine: a grape varietal grown in a warmer climate is likely to be higher in alcohol and how ripe the fruit smells and tastes than if grown in a cooler climate. In this session, we’ll take a deeper dive into wines with differing levels of alcohol and ripeness. You’ll discover why some wines smell and even taste jammy and which wines are likely to pack an alcoholic punch in the glass. Beginners welcome!

This week’s session will be led by Victoria Phan, winner of the Top Taster award in the 2024 Oxford–Cambridge Blind Tasting Varsity Competition, and international wine tasting competitor.

We will be providing six white and six red wines for the tasting.

We ask that you please aim to arrive 10-15 minutes before the session begins so that we can begin pouring immediately.

Please bring your own set of 6 ISO tasting glasses. Glasses are available to buy here .
